3 Days / 2 Nights
This 3-day Rwanda gorilla trekking safari gives you a once-in-a-lifetime chance to come face-to-face with the endangered mountain gorillas in Volcanoes National Park. The park, found in northern Rwanda on the border with Uganda, is part of the larger Virunga Mountains that stretch into Congo and Uganda. You’ll also get a feel for Rwandan culture by visiting the famous Gorilla Guardians Village, where local people share their traditions and stories. Along the way, you’ll enjoy Rwanda’s stunning scenery—rolling green hills, quiet villages, and warm hospitality.
This trip combines wildlife, nature, and culture, making it a perfect short escape for adventurers and nature lovers.
Upon arrival in Kigali, either at the airport or from your hotel, you will meet your friendly driver guide. If time allows, you’ll enjoy a short city tour of Kigali, Rwanda’s clean and welcoming capital. Sites you may visit include:
After the tour, enjoy a delicious lunch at a local restaurant in the city. You can choose between tasty Rwandan dishes or international cuisine.
In the afternoon, you will begin your scenic drive to Volcanoes National Park, located in Musanze district. Along the way, take in the beautiful views of Rwanda’s green hills and rural life.
Drive time: Approx. 2.5 hours by road
Optional: Helicopter transfer (35 minutes)

Wake up early and have a hearty breakfast at the lodge. Your guide will drive you to the park headquarters for a pre-trek briefing by the rangers. You’ll learn about gorilla behavior, trekking rules (like keeping distance and avoiding flash photography), and be assigned to a gorilla family group.
Before the trek begins, enjoy traditional Rwandan dancing and a cup of local coffee while you wait. Then you’ll be driven to the trailhead to begin your exciting trek into the forest.
The trek can take anywhere between 2 to 6 hours depending on where the gorillas are that day. Once you find them, you will spend up to one unforgettable hour watching these gentle giants in their natural home.
After the trek, return to your lodge to relax. If you're feeling energetic, you may take an optional afternoon visit to the Musanze caves, the twin lakes (Burera and Ruhondo), or simply enjoy the peaceful views from your lodge.

After breakfast, visit the Gorilla Guardians Village (formerly Iby’iwacu Cultural Village). This community-based experience lets you learn about Rwanda’s culture and traditions, including dances, music, and crafts. The people here—many of whom are former poachers—now earn a living by sharing their culture and supporting conservation.
Enjoy demonstrations of Rwandan cooking, traditional medicine, banana beer brewing, and even try your hand at traditional dancing or archery!
Later, you will drive back to Kigali for your flight home or be dropped at your hotel, depending on your travel plans.
